Signs that a repair is due

Interlock paving does not fail all at once — it gives warning. A driveway that dips or ripples, pavers that shift underfoot, emptied joints where weeds settle, an edge drifting outward, a puddle that lingers after the rain: all of these say the base or the bedding layer is moving beneath the surface. How a restoration unfolds

Repairing interlock paving isn't about setting the pavers back and hoping: it's about correcting what lies underneath. The pavers in the affected area are lifted and set aside, the bedding layer is reworked and levelled, then the pavers are laid back in their original pattern and the surface is compacted. The joints are refilled last, since they are what locks the whole thing together and keeps the pavers from shifting again. A sunken edge is dealt with along the way: without solid restraint on the sides, the surface will spread again.
