Sod or seeding?

The two approaches answer different needs. Sod gives an instant, even and hard-wearing lawn: the ground is green the same day, and the dense mat leaves little room for weeds. It is the logical choice when a lawn is being created from scratch or when a surface is too damaged to be salvaged. Seeding is better suited to densifying an existing lawn or repairing targeted patches: it takes patience and steady watering before it shows a result. We look at the real condition of your grounds before pointing you toward one or the other.

Preparing the soil, then laying the sod

Sod will not make up for poorly prepared soil — that is where everything is decided. The surface is first cleared of debris and old grass, then levelled to avoid the hollows where water pools. The rolls are laid tight, with staggered joints and in full contact with the soil: leave a gap underneath and the roots will not anchor. Watering over the first weeks is decisive; it is what lets the sod root rather than dry out on the surface. Installation is done in spring or fall — in the middle of a heat wave, rooting is markedly harder.
